We specialise in shipping cars, 4×4’s, Motorhomes, Campervans & Camping trucks to Mombasa, Kenya & Dar Es Salaam Tanzania, offering shipping services on fast, frequent Roll on Roll off (RORO) and container vessels to all major ports including  Mombasa & Dar Es Salaam.

Departures are from major Northern European (EU) ports including the UK (Southampton, Tilbury, Liverpool, Felixstowe, London Gateway and Bristol), Belgium (Zeebrugge & Antwerp), Germany (Bremerhaven & Hamburg) , Netherlands (Rotterdam) and others.

In addition to the above, we can ship both RORO and Container cargo from mediterranean ports including Marseille, France, Sagunto & Barcelona, Spain, Genoa & Livorno, Italy.

Some sailings are direct from Europe to Africa, and others are stopping services. Sailing can take between 20 and 40 days depending on the departure and destination ports.

*Note shipments to East Africa can go via two routes 1) The mediterranean and the Suez Canal 2) Via South Africa

RORO Services

There are regular, reliable Roll on Roll off services to and from Europe, we recommend people to book on the most direct services that go between Europe and East African ports as these provide a little more peace of mind regarding security than the stopping services.

Returning from Mombasa and Dar Es Salaam we have 2 services, one of these heads north via mediterranean ports, the other heads South before continuing north via South & West Africa.

The services are good value for those with oversized vehicles, but also provide comparative costs to sharing a 40ft container for a smaller vehicle.

The import / export costs of shipping RORO is significantly cheaper than container shipping with more or less equivalent freight rates.

Container Services Dar Es Salaam & Mombasa

We offer container services from Europe and other destinations to both Dar Es Salaam & Mombasa. We have reliable clearing agents in both ports to look after your shipment.

 

Import  / Export Requirements – Tanzania and Kenya

For both Tanzania and Kenya, we recommend you ship into both countries with a carnet.  You may be able to enter by land without one, however, the process of shipping is much easier using one.

For vehicles that are registered in the SACU, the East African Community do allow temporary import without a Carnet de passage.

For import we ask that the original carnet is with our local agents at least a week prior to the ship’s arrival so that they may complete the necessary customs formalities.

For export, we recommend you arrive in the city of departure a week before sailing to complete customs formalities. Customs formalities can take place a few days before the vehicle is taken to the port. Under normal circumstances the vehicle is dropped off at the port 48 hours before the vessel’s arrival.

Travel Insurance

We would strongly recommend a Travel insurance policy for travel in East Africa. Read more about Africa Travel Insurance.

Booking

We recommend booking shipping services 2-3 months before departure, however, we are able to book up to 2 weeks prior to shipping, depending on availability.  Please note during public holidays, elections and other national events, customs officers in the region are usually off work, this can lead to significant delays in the shipping process, we would advise researching these prior to making a booking. Shipping Rates

RORO rates

To Mediterranean ports start from $70 per cubic metre, special rates are available for vehicles under certain heights / volume. Import costs are typically $500-$800 depending on port, carrier and vehicle weight / dimensions.

Returning from Southern Africa to Europe, prices start from $70 per cubic metre, special rates are available for vehicles under certain heights / volume. Export costs are typically $450 – $800 depending on port, carrier and vehicle weight / dimensions.

Container shipping

Prices vary but start from $1200 for a 20ft container and $1400 for a 40ft container, excluding stuffing and local charges. Expect to pay around $3700 / $4000 for 20/40ft container from Africa to Europe and $2800/$3200 from Europe to Africa including all charges. (*prices vary by port of departure).

Local port costs and clearing charges are generally high in the region, expect costs to be between $500 & $1200 depending on the method of transport and the size of the vehicle.
